Paul Williams Responds To rock nyc

Paul+Williams+ASCAP+Pop+Music+Awards+Show+nvw3vvks425lPerhaps you have been following our writings about Paul Williams. I wrote a teaser for his Cafe Carlyle Show, Williams very graciously tweeted it, Jack Phillips reviewed the show, Williams responded to an email from Jack, I reviewed his response and now you are up tp date because I’m gonna cut out the middle man and just post what Williams had this to say to say in response to my post.

Before I do, please take his words about my writing with a huge grain of salt. We get responses from big stars from time to time but they usually hate us. It is indicative of Williams nature that he is so generous in his assessment of me (I agree about Jack) rather than anything I’ve done. Still, I’ll take it any way! One more thing, as I have mentioned many times, I am a recovering alcoholic but also my father died when I was sixteen years old, so nice call Paul!

“Jack,

“Iman wrote some interesting and really insightful  observations. I was delighted with your review and with his article. A couple of minor mistakes. My father died when I was 13 in a car wreck. Drunk. At 27 I was sleeping on my mother’s couch not my fathers. I’m 23 years sober not 19.

“The sadness is of course there in the song “you’re gone”. And I think there’s a great deal of similar emotions in other songs of mine. The truth is that the performer is really only half of the relationship  in an evening of song. Iman brings an ’empathetic heart that’s keenly observant. And probably
a few of his own issues around grieving and loss

“That’s just a guess. Really pleased with the way you both treated me. For the record Elaine said “you’re the warmest human being I’ve ever seen on stage.”  Something like that sticks with you for a lifetime.

“Blessings & thanks, Paul

“PS. Please share this with him. He’s an impressive writer. “
