“Beat Goes On Medley” by Madonna is destroying my life.
Off the new Sticky And Sweet Tour 2008 live album and I was trying to figure out what to test with (I caught the tour at MSG and expected the worst) . At first I thought “Borderline”, and, you know, how could she fuck that up? Well, she could do a Courtney Love impression. So on to the next and I decided on “Beat Goes On” because I figured, hey, at least there would be a Kanye West rap.
And there a rap is but from the pathetic shout out to “Buenes Aries” to the half dead “wooh” in the middle to a completely irrelevant West near the end, this song should be taken out and shot at dawn.
Without, in Christopher Owens words, getting all dog barking at caravans about it, if Madonna wants to do more with her life than fuck about in Africa, she better reconsider what she is up to fror the bottom up.
Listen to her first two albums: everything else notwithstanding, it stood up because the songs stood up and they haven’t stood up since Music TEN YEARS AGO.
Madonna needs to reinvent the wheel. Hook up with a great songwriter like a Wim Butler, a Dave Longstreth. Madonna had a huge hit writing with Babyface back in the day: why not a Neyo today?
I don’t know but I do know this: she has gone as far as she can go on straight up dancer and it is time to reconsider.
