Ladies and gentlemen, the dream we all dream of, a one hit wonder has a second hit. As a big time K-Pop , I wasn't insane over "Gangham Style". I didn't really like it at first and by the time it caught on I was sick of it so I never found that ground we can all find here.
"Gentleman" has the same DNA as "Gangham Style" -the same fuzzed out drum synth punches it all the way through, and Psy has found another addictive hook, the often repeated "Mother Father Gentleman", which finds the neon colored, speckled out Psy, playing pranks around South Korea, swimming pools, gyms, football stadiums, somewhere between a vicious imp, a sex symbol and a functionally negative whack case.
The dance is sort of the horse done done vertically and easy enough to emulate but not quite as smart but the song itself is better. Not up to G-Dragon levels but G-Dragon may well be too clever for a world audience. "Gentleman" isn't just clever enough, completely clever enough, but not so it suffers from culture shock for the masses. It reminds me a little, conceptually at least, of LMFAO. It aims for the kids.
Lyrically, it isn't the weird political put down of Gangham Style, the most extreme bit is the "mother father" sounding a lt like "mother fucker" here is the translation and after that the video. The grade is based upon it being a hit, if it flops it is a B+:
