I attended an amazing lecture at Lincoln Center titled Punking Out, which featured Debbie Harry & Chris Stein and I heard tales of Blondie that gave me goosebump,, then headed to an art show in Chelsea with lots fun creative people, including my pal, Brian, followed by a walk through the Bowery and dinner at Katz's Deli and a return walk through the Bowery and East Village while Debbie and Joey were "howling at the moon" this beautiful spring night
For all you Blondie fans, the lecture was spectacular and was exactly what I expected. Stories from the very beginning of how The Stilettos morphed into Blondie. The early days of touring with Television, down at Max's & CBGB's, how Blondie transcended genres from Fab Five Freddy to disco.
Stories including transvestites at Club 82, Warhol and his shoebox cameras, Iggy Pop, Studio 54, Hitchc…ock, Devo and a possible forthcoming memoir from Debbie and a new album coming out from Blondie.
I should also note that the evening included amazing photos that Chris took over the years…. they were really special!
And oh yeah, I was sitting next to legendary photographer, Bob Gruen for the entire lecture.
PS- Chris Stein digs Justin Beiber.
Unfortunately I do not have photos as I either lost my camera on the train or it was pouched when I fell asleep (Editor's Note: we got a pix on line). I'm still hoping karma brings it to the lost and found. Regardless, it was a spectacular night!
