Once again, social media does incredible things.
It’s not surprising when you find another CT-based local hardcore band- they seem to be a dime a dozen these days. You end up running into the same riffs and the same sounds- it’s a rut that a lot of younger bands get stuck in. It’s disappointing, but really the norm. However, what’s not so typical is the band Senseless.
I found them via Twitter. Originally, I was skeptical. My bias against local hardcore bands had never really been challenged, no matter how many Webster Underground shows I went to. I didn’t really think much of them, until I stumbled upon a YouTube link to their song “Reckoning”; I was absolutely blown away.
First of all, the guitar layers of the song are phenomenal. It’s true talent that is undeniably way ahead of the band member’s ages. The genuine musicianship that’s there under the notes and chords show an amount of commitment that you don’t get from the typical garage band that practices in your mom’s basement and is super lazy. The drummer and bassist are perfectly aligned, and both entwine in a way that keeps the rhythm of the song going without a hitch, and keeps the driving and fast-paced feel of it exciting. As for the vocals, it’s really depending on what’s your cup of tea. If you’re anything like I am, you’ll love them. Regardless, hardcore vocals aren’t really for everyone but hey- don’t knock it till you try it. The balance of the instruments with his voice is wonderful, and the versatility shown is, once again, far beyond the caliber of any other teenage-boy metal group. There is so much good to say about every aspect of the tune.
I’m so glad I found such a talented band that’s where I’m from, too. Not only do they have a substantial amount of experience under their belt, but they also have a promising future. Discovering Senseless has now broken the cycle of boring and run-of-the-mill local bands… and they’ve also set the bar much, much higher.
