In one of the worst bits of luck I’ve had all season Blackstreet and Diana Krall are performing on the same day, Friday April 19th. And I already have a tix for Krall.
April 19th has been the night from hell. I actually had tickets to THREE SHOWS THAT DAY.
Rod stewart
Killing Joke
Krall
Then Rod moved to December 9th and I was back with Krall. But now Ted Reilly’s new jack swing band (the one where a band member had Blackstreet tattoed on his chest and then got fired) have reunited and I am torn as hell but will probably stay with Krall. All three of the big Streeters, Teddy, Dave Hollister and Chauncey Black will be there but no Joseph Stonestreet.
I saw Blackstreet back in the 90s, between Dru Hill and New Edition at MSG, on a night that was the first time since the 1970s rap gigs I’ve been the only white person in the audience. This sure wasn’t crossover despite Whitney being there (sitting directly in front of me) and the crosover success of “Candy Girl’. Nope, this wlived up to the “we say coffee, you say black” chant.
On a tangent, I went to New Edition without Bobby Brown later that year at Radio City and the band wasn’t half as good.
Still Ted Reilly (not unlike Larry Blackmon), who soon after this started working with Michael Jackson on Invincible, would never become the superstar he deserved to be.
But it doesn’t look like I will be seeing blackstreet one mo gin and more is the pity. That doesn’t stop you of course.
Coffee?
Black!
