Annuals Have Bongos on Their “Sweet Sister” EP by Helen Bach

Hey want to check out something totally weird?

K yeah so did I

Annuals,Sweet Sister.

“Loxtep” the opening song is so strange its addictive. I had not heard of this band before. I like the vocals and I like the xylophone. My ear will always travel to the strange sound in the back. This sounds a bit ‘Sting’esque but not as arrogant. But its very different and almost has a Spanish flair.

“Turncloaking” starts off rather boringly accoustic until the introduction of more twitter sounds. I think Im loving the vocalist but again the accent is undeterminable. Usually when this happens the band is from Iowa or something and not some romantic far off European place. But again it has the early Sting sound of whisper vocal harmony.

“Sweet Sister” has BONGO’s and suddenly this release makes me happy. I love it what a fun ‘indie

but as much as I love that is just about as much as I hate the spoon playing crap that is “Holler and Howl”. Yeah thats sorta crap filler. Theres not even really any redemption to it in the strings. Sorry.

Ending with “Flesh and Blood”, sort of makes me want to start again. I think of it this way we have 5 songs and only one sucks. WIN!

Go figure…theyre from North Carolina. So much for exotic.
