The scary thing in this story is that after going to five doctors, Marissa Patermoster is still in pain.
Six months ago, the lead singer and guitarist (and songwriter) for Screaming Females and the great offshoot Nouns was diagonsed with mononucleosis, a very tiring thing, and the word was Marissa was sufferring from chronic fatigue. but earlier this week she told the Village Voices Michael Alan Goldberg, it was actually chronic pain..
Last year's Ugly was one of last years best albums and while this years EP Chalk Tape might not be as great, the improvidational nature kinda makes it a looser thing, still it is pretty damn good,Marissa is an amazing sight on stage, she looks like she has just wandered out of a gothic novel about a Victorian child killed by her mother and haunting the denozens of the house she was murdered in, and sounds just about the same as well.
Marissa said the following about the pain: "Not being able to play has been one of the most difficult things I've ever had to deal with," she says. "It's so, so hard to step back from it all, and it was especially difficult to give in to the pain. I felt like a failure. Every night I'd go to sleep and just hope that the next morning I'd wake up pain-free. After weeks and weeks of pain, I realized that whatever hurt so badly wasn't going to concede to my wishful thinking, and we had to make some really serious decisions for our band, our lives, and our careers
This is about as scary as life can get and while it isn't as bad as it was, it hasn't been really solved either: Marissa said: "It's been frustrating, to say the least, but the good news is that all of my blood work and scans are normal," she says. "Through a lot of physical therapy, a tweaked diet, and exercise, I've been able to navigate through the chronic aches relatively well. It's been slow going, but I'm definitely moving forward as far as my recovery is concerned."
I've met Marissa numerous times and she has always been very nice and relly quite normal. She better get better soon…
