Tomas Doncker Band To Play Their Global Soul At BB King's On Friday!

Tomas Doncker is one of the few professional musicians I consider a friend so when I write about him it should be seen within the prism of my really liking the guy. A business friendship, sure, but no less real.

So when I say, go and check out the Tomas Doncker Band opening for the Ethiopian pop star Teddy Afro at BB Kings on Friday, take my friendship into account than do no miss the opportunity to hear tracks from his astounding soon to be released album Power Of The Trinity… A Slight Return. I had lunch with Doncker last week who took time to meet up between recording and writing sessions, and he gave me a copy of the premixed album. In its own way, the album is as politically hardcore as Outernational, but with age and compassion and understanding as well as anger lining it, this unbelievable album mixes the old with the new, the east with the west and soul and funk… I don't think I can overstate the case for "From Brooklyn To Ethiopia" and :Rise Above" -I don't think it is possible.

Anyway, Tomas goes on stage at 1115p on Friday February 22nd, 2013 and I can hardly control my excitement.

But Tomas has more info to impart,. He is working with a charity, the Studio Samuel Organization, who are using his music to help with their fund raising. A friend of mine gave me "Half The Sky" about girls in the world being in virtual slavery and forced into prostitution as children before being thrown away. Studio Samuel is a similar organization to the Half The Sky Foundation and couldn't be more important.

Here is some more information regarding Tomas' current works for Global Soul and his record label True Groove (distributed by Sony offshoot Red):
