Active Viewin': Concert Picks For The Week Of February 18th, 2013

I haven't seen Tomas Doncker on stage since last summer  but I have heard the rough mixes of Power Of The Trinity… A Slight Return, a powerful consolidation of his Global Soul and am very excited to have the opportunity to catch him opening for Teddy Afro -an Ethiopian superstar, who doesn't sound like you think he might,, but rather he plays out with jams and repetitions. Tomas hits the stage at 1115pm. so get to BB Kings early (or is that late?)  Friday night.

Monday –  Les Paul Trio – Iridium – Even death can't stop the great man from his weekly shows, so take the opportunity to check out Les Paul's former band mates.

Tuesday – Fred Armisen -Beacon Theater –  SNL player, indie hero, sitcom star and drummer brings his show downtown, where it belongs, of course. PS: he gives the best impression of Queen Elizabeth II ever!

Wednesday – Solange – Webster Hall – Solange is a talented woman no doubt, but she should have hit it two years ago. And while producer-foil Dev Hynes is a talented fellow, his instincts are a touch esoteric. But still…

Thursday – Buddy Miller And Jim Lauderdale – Down home bluegrass by a coupla pros.Shout for "I Lost My Job Of Loving You"

Saturday – P.O.D. – Glens Falls Civic Center Tickets – First band on the program, there are few better, maybe The Devil Wears Prada, Christian Bands. If it was closer I would not miss it.

Sunday – Balance & Composure – Mercury Lounge – Shout out for "Big Mouth Strikes Again" just to annoy Helen.
