Must See: Tyler The Creator In March, 2013

When last heard from a star struck Tyler The Creator was at the Grammy’s asking for “selfies” (ergo face to face meetings) with the rich and boring, especially Rihanna and for the latter, it is hard to deny but given his buddy Frank Ocean’s history with Chris Brown , he is lucky he didn’t end up getting fisties.

Meanwhile, Tyler  readies his eagerly (like, more than eagerly) anticipated sophomore solo effort Wolf and switches to smaller venues like, well , like Music Hall Of Williamsburg. As Alyson reported, he wanted places that will sell out.

And the bastard (harhar) got them, with MHOW’s Saturday March 23rd sold out before I’d even heard of it.  Which left me wondering if it was worth checking Tyler out for the FOURTH time in three years and checking out the prices, a buck fifty on Stubhub, which I passed on and then $75 a day later which I went the bucks on.

Although MHOW is not a bad place at all to see a band, it is not a great please to see Tyler because even if you go up to the side balcony you are gonna get pummeled my moshing assholes and so there is no way to get close. Fine, but the flip side? Even the worst viewpoints at MHOW are pretty great so I can get there late (on a Saturday night no less) amd just hang out of harms way near the exit and enjoythe show.

I am stlll waiting for Tyler to perform a real solo set, I am still waiting for him to dip deep into Goblin and really give a serious, all out show. Truthfully, I thought Mellowhype were excellent at Gramercy (I wish he was playing there) and I think  there is no reason why Tyler who is a rarity in modern hip hop, he raps well about serious things (solo at least and at least some of the time).

So, yeah I payed the money and I will tell you all about it… again!
