Helen Sez:
Move Over Darling by Tracy Ullman
Remember this chick had her own show.
She was a big hit in the 80s but she disappeared without much fanfare.
This sounds like a kistche’ reject from Grease or something. Wait, maybe more like a cast off from Crybaby.
That 50s bouffant poodle skirted girl voice.. yeah no. Whomever shes singing this too not only moved over but moved out, most likely to his parents basement to avoid her, bet he changes his phone number too.
Lyrics, cute
But the delivery makes me want to go on a killing spree.

You’d think my co-editor would be kinder to Doris Day, if not Tracey Ullman. At least because the great comediene Miss. Day gave up Hollywood to protect wild animals. Her home is a sanctuary. “Move Over darling” was an excellent remake of a 40s Cary Grant comedy, about a woman who is asumed dead after five years, escapes from the island she is stranded on only to find her husband remarried.
Of course Doris gets her guy. How couldn’t she? Who could resist such a sultry come on, “I long to be kissed, move over darling, how could I resist…”
Tracey’s vfersion, off the aweinspiring You Broke My Heart In 17 Places, is a perfect update with an inspired use of overdubbed harmonies and a soft come on that flutters and seduces. Sure, doris is better but this is very very good.
