Get Ready – Rare Earth-Too white for me. Find The Temptations version instead.
Gimme Gimme Good Lovin’ – Crazy Elephant-They still play this on the oldies stations, and it has that bubblegum pop to it. Love the part when they laugh, sounds like they’re GETTING’ good lovin right at that very moment, ifyanowhaddimean.
Gimme Shelter – The Rolling Stones-not a single, but it probably got played more than most of the proper 45’s here. Also one of the most significant songs The Stones ever recorded. It may be their pinnacle.
Give A Damn – Spanky & Our Gang-This has a Ray Conniff kinda vibe which can’t be good.
Give It Up – Lee Dorsey-This is better than the other tune I reviewed by him earlier.
Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose – James Brown-It’s great of course, but I like his live versions better.
Give Peace A Chance – The Plastic Ono Band-Recorded in a hotel in Montreal. Powerful social commentary of course, but the recording has that genuine un-polished quality that makes it all the more powerful.
Going In Circles – The Friends Of Distinction-this has a gentler, smoother soul feel. It’s pretty darn great. Jessica Cleaves would go on to sing with Earth, Wind and Fire as well as Parliament.
Good Clean Fun – The Monkees- well, it made it to #13 in Australia. Everywhere else in the world it stiffed, and it’s easy to hear why.
Good Lovin’ Ain’t Easy To Come By – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell –Produced by Ashford and Simpson, with music by The Funk Brothers. Detroit royalty.
Good Times Bad Times – Led Zeppelin-Whenever I hear this I just wait for Page’s solo, and it’s always worth the wait.
Goodbye – Mary Hopkin-Another McCartney song shows up, but this one is infinitely better than “Come And Get It”.
Goodbye Columbus – The Association-The vocal blend here is their trademark, and these guys were just mind blowing.
Gossip – Cyril Neville-Another soul funk platter, it doesn’t suck, but I’ve heard better this year.
Grazing In The Grass – The Friends Of Distinction-I can dig it, She can dig it, They can dig it, oh let’s dig it.
