My Fave Tracks, Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

1. Romance – Wild Flag – The band keep claiming they are NOT Sleater Kinney and this is true. The vocalist isn't as as good. But from the opening lick it is obvious they have more than passing fair similarities. Excellent opening for Bright Eyes earlier this year, their third official release shoots on all cylinders: thunder clap art-rock disguised as hey hey we're the Monkees.

2. Can't Get Used To Losing You – The English Beat – A tough choice of covers (so was "Tears Of A clown"), very, very well executed. That syncopated rhythm has its antecedents in dubstep by they way.

3. Nobody Knows – The Feelies – Time waits for no man, sounds like a folk rocker with a touch of jangled nerves.

4. Please Don't Go – Johanna And The Dusty Floor – Enormously consistent Goth but not like the Cure, like Charlotte Bronte. This is Australian sounds like she was born in the Yorkshire moors with one ear cocked to Tori Amos and the other to Stevie Nicks.

5. End Of Time – Beyonce

6. Country Is As Country Does – Dolly Parton – Kills Brad Paisley's sacrosanct ode dead.

7. Little Bad Girl – David Guetta – Brilliant synth hook, the keyboards carrying the beat. but the song isn't there -proving Guetta needs Will I Am as much if not more than Guetta needs Will I Am.

8.Something For The DJ – Pitbull – Or maybe Guetta can use any strong MC. This is a nursery rhyme and is a catchy mofo.

9. Perth – Bon Iver – can i stop trying to like this album now?

10. Future comes – Wild flag – Since several members of the band wrote the book on the four note hook, they have every right, and i am happy to hear them, do it again.
