25 Track Reviews In Space And time by Iman Lababedi

1. Take It On The Run – REO Speedwagon – It sounds more produced than it is -the drums sound doctored.

2. This Is My Life – Edward Maya – And the drums don’t sound doctored here, they sound padded.

3. Born Free – M.I.A. – Imagine a pack of lions rubbling through the jungles of Africa -that’s what these drums sound like.

4. Color Me In – Saturday Astrology – Straight up no chaser rock song with a knock out melody by the prog sextet.

5. Stop! – Shinobi Ninja – DA kills me on this track. The chorus is pure metal as well.

6. Don’t You Want To Share The Guilt? – Kate Nash – Took awhile to click with me because there is something very girl walking round her hood taking notes for a song about it. But it builds through folk-pop observation to a ephiphany of noise by the end that is very original.

7. A/B Machine – Sleigh Bells – Very late 80s electronica but in a great way.

8. Albert Camus – Titus Andronicus – Very old, 2006, version, very embryonic and still a highly successful earlier version.

9. Xxxo – M.I.A. – Wow, a song by her I don’t love.

10. Waka Waka (feat. Freshlyground) – Shakira – It is to her credit that Shakira doesn’t get lost in the chorus.

11. Big Plans – Impossible Arms – Best back up harmonies imaginable.

12. Evol – Harper Simon – Finds the acoustic and the blues where it doesn’t exit.

13. What We Gained In the Fire – The Mynabirds – Crossover soul though I’m not sure from which direction.

14. Acarpenter – Gucci Soundsystem – Three years old and a little old fashioned but in a good way. When the synth comes in its dynamite.

15. Foundation – Kate Nash – At first it’s not funny and then it is funny and then it’s not funny.

16. Say My Name – Holy Ghost! – Is that sample? Where is it from?

17. California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg) – Katy Perry – I can’t hear this and I am really trying to.

18. Zebulon – Rufus Wainwright – Dark, quiet, distelled, furious and pained.

19. No Surprises – Regina Spector – Just like Radiohead, it doesn’t know what is upsetting it but it knows something is.

20. Superman’s Black In The Building – Public Enemy – Knows what is upsetting it and is trying to draw the lines just so FOR ELEVEN MINUTES

21. Swoon – The Chemical Brothers – Like the Pet Shop Boys in depressive mode.

22. Memories (Fuck Me I’m Famous Remix) – David Guetta – I really hate the promotion behind the newbie.

23. Peter And The Pets – The Only Ones – Just like Seizing Elias only thirty years earlier (not musically, sysmatically)

24. Damage – Ol’ Dirty Bastard – I listen to Odb more than I listen to Biggie and Jigga combined. Go figure.

25. One Life Away – M. Ward – Necrophilia.
