10 Songs: What rock nyc Is Listening To 1-16-14

Shock positive review from rock nyc makes Real estate lean against wlls even harder

1. Talking Backwards – Real Estate – A consistently disappointing band who are so soft on the sides everything seems to slop over, come up with a killer melody and a tight arrangement ; it is like REM without the mushy lyrics – A

2. Can’t remember To forget you – Shakira, Rihanna – The average cost for a Rihanna demo is $75k, that was DEMO – B+

3. I’m A Freak – Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull – Another pleasant piece of pop dance fluff – B+

4. Sunday – Model Village – Pleasant unassuming modern folk, Cambridge style – B

5. Retreat – Sharon Jones And the Dap Kings – Like the Supremes at their mist dramatic? What nonsense. How this piece of mediocre funk can be compared to the Supremes at their most dramatic is completely baffling but that’s what Michaelangelo Matos said in the Post so it must be true – C

6. Hunter Of Invisible Game – Bruce Springsteen – So this is what it has come to, is it? I’ve waited so long and hard to admire Bruce again I’ll even even about this somewhat dreary track – B

7. The Sunken Lands – Rosanne  Cash – Christ, it shouldn’t be this hard to muster some enthusiasm for a Rosanne Cash song. I can just imagine sitting through an 50 minutes of this to get to three country hits at the end – B

8. Hanging On to You – Phil Gammage – Sounds a bit like a salsa – B+

9. Grace – The Crystal Method, LeAnn Rimes, – LeAnn’s vocals teach Avicii how to add country to dubstep – B+

10. Red Dust – James Vincent McMorrow – This guy is big time, he sounds like James Blake meets Justin Vernon – A
