10 Songs: Tuesday, February 10th, 2015

Lisa Flescher

Lisa Flischer

1 – How Can I Ease the Pain (Slow Jam) – Lisa Fischer – This should have broken the Stones back up singer, shoulda broken her through to a real stardom, the Kleer singer comes into her own and then leaves – A

2 – Prayer – D’Angelo – Low hope – B

3 – Map To The Treasure – Lisa Fischer, Billy Childs – I complete missed the great jazz pianist’s Laura Nyro tribute album last year, here the 20 feet etc sings this exquisite perfectly performed Nyro track – A

4 –  Betcha By Golly Wow – is this disco? Soft MOR? Soul? Well, it is soulful black vocal band with a glorious falsetto, the incomparable Russell Thompkins, Jr and a deeply, intimate wonderful romanticism. This is the sort of thing that made the 70s our greatest generation – A

5 – Outlines – Mike Magoo and Dragonette -Big i the UK, this is house bads plus a very catchy dance melody. Could be major – B+

6 – A New Wave – Sleater Kinney – I gave the album a pretty dark good but I’ll give this terrific guitar wall three voice sprinter all the respect in the world.  A great song I missed – A

7 – Heart Is a Drum – Beck – I didn’t really like the album very much but this song is the best of a very boring lot. I bet Beyonce is turing in her grave (if you see what I mean) – A-

8 – Pride Before A Fall – The Church – Substatial improvement o the terrible first track – C

9 – Drop It Like Its Hot – Snoop Dogg – U worship that clip clop track – A

10 – The Chi-Lites – Opinions differe but I put them below the Stylistics, maily because they don’t have the lead singer, but not here – A
