– Who Needs The Peace Corps? – The Mothers – Off melody, jazz inflected sneer at the state of the country especially the hippies who at the time seemed liked the height of hypocrisy, worth the same disparagement as just about everybody else, but today seems like a glorious up in flames failure. Zappa seems between bewilderment and an austere despising…. in 1968 – B

– Under Control – Alesso – Feigned emotionalism as mainstream pop hurt by a truly lax song and not helped by Calvin Harris – C+

– El Taxi – Pitbull – Latin AMerican return to his roots with this salsa beat pop song by the Miami superstar – B

– Joe’s Garage – Frank Zappa – Title track off Zappa’s rock opera, “a stupid little story about how the government is going to do away with music” according to the man himself. Little did he expect they would manage it by flooding the market with the product – B

– Love Gets Me Every Time – Shania Twain – The mainstreaming of country before brocountry put a wrecking ball through it and Americana left a bad taste in your mouth. Great voice – B+

– Ghosttown – Madonna – From her wildly underrated current album, a world class ballad and proof image infects sales in mainstream pop. No reason for this not to hit – A

– Your Bright Baby Blues – Jackson Browne – Romantic malaise from a man who slept with Nico, the untouchable German Goddess that Leonard Cohen couldn’t get over on (I mean PRIME Cohen),. How did he do it? Browne was gorgeous – A

– Another Lonely Night – Adam Lambert – “alone in the dark, holding my heart…” Lambert continues his morph from Freddie Mercury to George Michaels – B

– Enter Sylvia Path – Belle And Sebastian – Galloping synth beats for a world without hope – C+

– Here Comes Your Man – Meghan Smith – Best scene in 500 Days of Summer was the karaoke one – A-
