10 Songs: August 6th, 2014

The Artic Monkeys

1. Bad Habit – The Kooks – When did these guys become the Arctic Monkeys? This is the sort of garage blues AM have been doing for years and I thought the Kooks had more going on, more like Squeeze, but they are one Alyson Camus review from hooking up with Josh Homme and visiting Burning Man – C

2. Scarecrow – Counting Crows – I don’t dislike these guys because of Adam’s haircut… but it sure doesn’t help – C

3. You’ve Love That Loving Feeling – Elvis Presley – The thing about Presley in full blown ballad form, is he is can be small and personal and big and brusque at the same time; this towers and cowers at the same time. Righteous indeed – A-
4. How Can You Really – Foxygen – very catchy alt rocky fuzz stuff – B+

5. Outlier – Spoon – Man, that drummer is good, it is like he is riding into the song on a chariot – B+

6. Anaconda – Nicki Minaj – This is a mistake, it is a pop song which ain’t popular – D+

7. World In Harmony – Adebisi Shank – Backs off a little then pounds its way in, no harmony to speak of – B-

8. A Heartbreak – Angus And Julia Stone – Aussie singer songwriter siblings, a real snooze – C+

9. Heavy Metal And reflective – Azealia Banks – Excellent rap, if this is what we can expect from the album, right on every beat she spits it and moves, it has the potential to be the album o the year – A

10. Kanye – The Chainsmokers – From the guys who gave us “#Selfie” , the two man production are better than I thought they’d be on the follow up – B
