You May Be Able To Stream The Beatles But You Can’t Afford This Christmas Card!

Untitled15

This is once again this time of the year when everyone is sending Christmas and Best Wishes cards, although ‘sending’ isn’t happening anymore these days, everyone is doing it electronically. So I suppose items like the one above will never been sold anymore in 50 years. That’s sad in a way, what kind of relics of the past will remain for the future generations? Hard drives? USB keys? I doubt they will survive this long, since technology evolves so rapidly that these artifacts will be long gone in a decade, probably rusting in a dump in China, and unless someone has printed this Kanye West-Kim Kardashian Christmas Card, it will be long gone in 50 years … paper on the contrary lasts for years and years, and you can sell it for a lot of money.

The Beatles signed this Christmas card in 1963, exactly, the four of them, John Lennon, Paul Mc Cartney, George Harrison en Ringo Starr, with a short message written by John Lennon as the card was intended for Sylvia, founder of the British Beatles fan club. May be the order of the signatures reveals more than we think, look at this timid George Harrison one in the left bottom…The two other signatures at the bottom right of the card, are the signatures of Freda Kelly and Anne Collingham, other founders of The Beatles fan club, not that anyone cares…

The auction, hosted by the site Catawiki, is now over and the highest bid reached $3, 306, which is quite a lot for a simple Christmas card. Too late for the special present for the Beatles fan in your life, but the real Christmas gift this year was all that streaming on Apple music and Spotify, right?
