I have never seen Prince in concert but I have a vague fascination with the character, he is one of our few rock stars left, still cultivating a myth surrounded by lots of mystery. He is a recluse and I imagine him living in a white castle with purple curtains, drinking in gold goblets, surrounded by young beauties bathing him every morning in milk, and feeding him with nectar… I am sure I am not too far from the truth, I mean he is 57 and the guy hasn’t aged a bit! He is an original, who has rejected the internet for years and renamed most of the women he has ever loved with fantasy appellations, even replacing his own name with a symbol at one point. How cool was that? It didn’t last but the legend did.
So a few items which have belonged to the purple one are on sale thanks to Mayte Garcia, his ex-wife and former backup singer, and Owen Husney, his first manager. The two are auctioning 95 pieces of Prince memorabilia via an online auction. As you could expect, the list is weird (like this pair of diamond handcuffs or this scorpio diamond necklace) but also very personal, as a lot of items are related to her wedding with Prince… Of course there is a lot of regular stuff you should expect at any musician auction, such as handwritten lyrics, early demos, cassettes and guitar… But you have to be either really broke or very bitter to sell your wedding ring with the handwritten marriage proposal!
The list below includes some of the most remarkable items, but there are many more of them (95 in total), featuring a lot of clothes and 3-piece outfits. However, since they are all eccentric and since Prince is a thin tiny creature, most of us, poor mortals, will have a hard time to fit in any of these turquoise, red, electric blue pants. You can view the whole deal here, there is nothing below $1,000 (a scarf screen-worn on Muppets Tonight), and the ring and marriage proposal has a $100,000 starting bid!
