Back in 2010 I was writing about racist rock bands, I mean the real ones like Empire Falls and Definite Hate, Empire Falls were OK but the rest of them were to hardcore what Christian rock is to rock. I mention this because I would rather listen to “Five N—–s Heads In A Freezer” than “Till It Happens To You” any day…
I abhor racism but I beyond abhor the disgraceful emotional vacuousness at the heart of Lady Gaga and Diane Warren’s bad bad bad song. I don’t believe that rape on campus is worse than it was, I believe it is as terrible now as it was in the 1970s, only today the spotlight is finally being placed upon it. And I concede that the 1 in 4 number, however horrific, if expanded to include all unwanted sexual contact, is probably accurate. But I still don’t think recording fucking awful songs helps the matter in the slightest.
Good causes is not an excuse for bad song, a bad song does so much more to hurt than it ever does to help. This bombastic trash is one of the worst tracks in the immediate past and I hate it so much it makes me ill.
