As we get closer to the elections, I really want to know who is supporting Donald Trump in the world of music. Is there even a band, an artist who is backing up the Donald? I keep hearing about musicians slamming Trump or threatening to sue him if he keeps using their music without their authorization, but is there even a musician who is endorsing the Republican candidate?
I am not really counting Azealia Banks who tweeted a few months ago ‘I REALLY want Donald Trump to win the election,’ because she is a provocateur and she also said Trump was an ‘asshole’, so she obviously wanted to push people’s buttons and it’s a fake endorsement coming from a woman who basically hates everyone.
So who else is there? A lot of old people, and I don’t want to sound offensive, but some of them should totally disappear in a Bel Air retirement home and never speak up again.
Pat Boone is an ally of the Trumpettes, a group of high-society female friends who admire Trump, and I don’t think I have ever heard of a more ridiculous name.
Unsurprisingly, Ted Nugent is a big Trump fan, as he declared ‘I’m a big fan of Donald Trump because I believe in bold, aggressive, unapologetic truth. Period,’… he also endorsed him on Facebook with a, ‘Know it, Donald Trump is the hellraiser America has needed for a very longtime’… coming from the guy who masturbates while watching Fox News, what else could we expect?
Mr. old-timey Las Vegas Wayne Newton has also endorsed Trump: ‘I love Donald, and he would make a great president,’ said Newton last year. ‘Number one, he tells the truth. Number two, he’s been where most of these guys want to be, in terms of riding on his own plane. He doesn’t have to worry about what hotels he stays in, he doesn’t have to worry about how his family gets to Hawaii, so on and so forth.’ I should have cut him at ‘he tells the truth’, I am sorry to report that Newton is deeply senile at this point, and the rest of his sentences are beyond idiotic as an explanation why Trump should be president.
‘I really like him. I think his problem is that he says what everyone wants to hear, but he doesn’t say it well. I love what he says, I have to admit,’ said Kenny Rogers said to the Guardian back in December…. as if I needed another reason to boycott his blank and bland music and his fried chicken franchise.
Another big surprise, Gene Simmons! Of course, he and Trump have two of the biggest egos on the planet and even though there is some nuance in his declaration about Trump, he is 100% behind him: ‘Trump is not a politician. He does not need your money, and he will speak his mind, God damn it, whether you like it or not. And he has no problem saying ‘Fuck off.’ I like that. Even if I disagree.’ They are both racist and misogynistic freaks and they should compare their penis size, that would be interesting.
Sadly Loretta Lynn is a Trump supporter, ‘I just think he’s the only one who’s going to turn this country around,’ she said back in January, ‘I’m going to let him call me.’ she also said she has been stumping for Trump at the end of each show, with a warm response from her public. It may be a deal-breaker for any future collaboration with cool young musicians like Jack White.
Among the younger supporters, you will also find Kid Rock and Jesse Hughes. Kid Rock declared his love for the Donald in an interview with Rolling Stone at the beginning of this year, but who could be surprised by sentences like ‘I’m digging Trump’, ‘his campaign has been entertaining as shit’? You know what? Kid Rock is a dumb-like-shit guy who wraps himself in the Confederate flag, so who cares?
And there is Jesse Hughes, frontman of the hipster band Eagles of Death Metal, and big Trump supporter… A guy who has also said a lot of dumb things, and I can’t make sense of the opinion of someone who has said that ‘evolution is for fools who believe in magical talking monkeys’.
There are also a bunch of country boys I have never heard of, as well as a few rappers, but who cares? There are no cool musicians in this list.
In the end, it’s a free country, everyone can say whatever he or she wants, everyone can have an opinion, but everyone can also judge, whether this is a valuable and stupid opinion or not.
