Weyes Blood Announces A Los Angeles Show And Probably A New Album

Like any great artist, Weyes Blood likes to cultivate mystery. Besides a Linda Ronstadt cover for the Minions movie (“You’re No Good”), we haven’t heard any new music from her since the release of her critically acclaimed 2019 album “Titanic Rising,” but it seems that the queen, as many of her fans call her, has reappeared with an announcement on social media:

“Hey loves, just a little dream juice leak on a Tuesday – I can’t even fit into my human costume anymore. Just bursting over here, too many secrets to hold onto. Next week I think I’ll just have to give birth ok??

First things first though – today I’d love to announce a very special hometown show at The Theatre at Ace Hotel on December 8th. It’ll be an evening of sad songs, dark juice, and maybe, just maybe a heinous surprise or two.”

A December show in Los Angeles? This sounds fantastic in the condition I can buy a ticket. And there’s also the “Next week I think I’ll just have to give birth” and “too many secrets to hold onto” which could mean she is about to drop a new album. Three years since her last release, so this seems to be the right time to do that.

The announcement also mentions “Weyes Blood and the Dark Juice,” which was her original stage moniker under which she released “The Outside Room” in 2011. The album has been described as ethereal and the tracks certainly are more on the experimental side than her recent work, with a religious-inspiration edge, echoing like a strange medieval dream. However, her voice is already spectacular, and you can perceive plenty of influences whether you think about Enya, Vangelis, sacred music, or Karen Carpenter. Her early work is missing her knack for sweeping ‘70s-inspired melodies that triumph in “Titanic Rising,” but it is still captivating and space-y.

Thus, “the Dark Juices” mentioned in today’s announcement may well be a return to the sources… plus the show has special guests, and this has everyone getting excited. Mystery is a good thing, but at the same time, I read that she mentioned an upcoming fall release during her set at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound. So yes, she will announce a new album soon.

Presale for the December 8 show starts on Thursday at 10 am PST, and she has even provided a link to receive a passcode: https://link.seated.com/f169b4e4-cd8a-4336-ab16-c4c8536ce8e0
