Watch The Regrettes’ New Video For Their Feminist Anthem, ‘Seashore’

The Regrettes

The Regrettes are wise beyond their age, I saw them a few months ago at the Echo, and I was amazed by their ….professionalism? There’s no other way to put it, they were playing and acting like adults while frontgirl Lydia Night is only 16 years old!

On Monday, they premiered a video on Entertainment Weekly for their track ‘Seashore, and I have no idea how they managed to do this! It is featured on their debut album ‘Feel Your Feelings Fool’, and it’s such a women-empowering song, a fuck-you little tune that all girls should immediately fall in love with it. In case you hadn’t noticed, the band has an attitude, and a wonderful one in this women-rights-violated-Trump-era.

‘You’re talkin’ to me like a child/Hey I’ve got news, I’m not a little girl/And no I won’t give you a little twirl’, sings Lydia in a song that gives the middle finger to any condescending man, and even when she is closed to be burnt like a witch on a stake, she couldn’t care less and is not looking for a savior, ‘You’re talkin’ to me like a child/But I’m not a helpless baby/Not waitin’ on you to come save me’…

‘I wanted to pair the defiance of the lyrics with a handful of historical vignettes that embrace women taking control of the situations that have held them back,’ declared director Claire Vogel to EW. ‘I wanted each scene to hint at how people might have freely spoken their inner thoughts in those moments should they have had the privilege.’

‘I initially dedicated this song to Donald Trump due to him being a bully,’ added Lydia Night who begins the video at the president’s place, singing from a White House lectern. ‘The video represents resistance. Given the fact that people in those time periods couldn’t stand up for themselves, I wanted to make sure that I’m always standing up for things that I believe in and for myself.’

This is exactly what this video reflects, a direct call for resistance, for standing for our rights and I haven’t even talked about the music itself, a tight and fierce anthem with an explosive chorus of guitars. Watch the video below.
