TVON: The Rock Vs The Rock (Spoiler Alert: They Both Lose)

Random Spoilers Abound…

Two Terrible Movies: Dwayne Johnson has had a terrible year, back in June there was the Disney disaster “Jungle Cruise,” based on Disneyworld’s tourist attraction. In this terrible romancing the dumb movie, Dwayne plays a 400 year old cruise director cursed to watch this movie, or rather stay next to the rover for the past 400 years. Meanwhile, EMily Blunt is a badass Indiana Jones, and her brother an openly gay partner (who, if he had actually come out in 1916 would be sharing a cell with Oscar Wilde) and between them out to save the world from, gasp, Germans on the eve of WWI. Just dropped for stream fans on Friday, Netflix alsi gave us “Red Notice” -which might even be worse. Dwayne as an FBI guy trying to clear his name, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds as thieves out to help him to help themselves. It is, essentially the same movies, same triangle, though there is even less sex in “Red Notice”. It is a question of degrees but both are rotten product through and through (Grade For Both: D)

Blade Runner: Black Lotus – somewhere between Final Cut and 2049, the replicants are back and a particularly powerful one takes on Los Angeles in a search for who and what she is. I realize it is a difficult thing to imagine, the empathy to care for the wellbeing of a machine, but the question remains, should? And what the hell do we care? The Adult Swim show is an anime so everything is a little off and very Asian -but the so was Final Cut – B

Adele One Night Only – The CBS Prime Time Special is as tone deaf as only the super rich can be, a brief (ten song) concert littered with celebrities (here). Adele is from council flats, working class, soccer loving Tottenham, and was reborn as a Bridget Jones type, everygirl. But the Adele we see here is just really just a super-duper celebrity oversharing. The truth is, it is creepy for a woman to be forced that deep into the public eye. There is no denying her voice (though a lot of denying her songs), and the new song about her alcoholic father, “I Drink Wine”, is lovely, but whether in a black pantsuit for the concert performed at the Griffith Observatory in October, or the horrendous interview with Oprah in Oprah’s rose garden -and don’t think a little patch of soil, thing fucking huge) is all creepy crawly, touchy, feely cringing that wasn’t as good as her show at MSG in 2016 (here). The concert is chopped up and interspersed between the interview so it goes late late afternoon to evening without warning. Adele isn’t one of us, she was once, she has the reflexes, but she isn’t, and the therapy lyrics she sings are not so good. But she does have that voice – C+

SNL: The show has its ups and downs, and the 13th was an up because of a handful of skits and Taylor’s ten minute “All Too Well”, the Pete Davidson lead with Taylor on the bridge “Three Sad Virgins” and Sarah Silverman’s hysterical Weekend Update – B
