TVON Spoilers, Nothing But SPOILERS: October 11th, 2021

Time To Die

No Time To DIe: who knew when I was a young teen collecting The Amazing Spiderman that in the future everything would be precisely that. Even James Bond would evolve from the witty, misogynistic, winner takes all Sean Connery to the last man you want to guard you, especially if you are a woman, and especially, especially if you are married to him, with a broken heart. The final movie of the five Daniel Craig 007s finds Bond with his daughter in mortal danger and, eventually, Bond dead. Admittedly, Craig isn’t Connery but he is Spiderman so that must count for something…. I wonder how they plan to reboot the series…. start again from scratch? Please, a lot more fun Broccolis – A-

Spectre: the real prequel from 2015, as a sort of Englishman the shocker here is not that Blofeld is his adoptive brother but that they are both upper middle class boys while I expected Dan to be working class. I mean, does anybody not realize that Sean’s double O was as working class as the Beatles, and that bulldog brutal Craig was raised on skiing trips with his adoptive father. Kudos to the Bond Girl who claims not to be one Léa Seydoux and proves it by being the mother of his child six years later – B+

Ted Lasso (Season 2) – you can’t tell a story where there is no conflict, it is Nabokov’s old formula: thesis, antithesis, synthesis and new thesis. So, for Ted Lasso to survive it can’t rest on its good vibes alone, there must be conflict. And Nate is a conflict’s conflict, the man, like Jamie Tartt damaged by a shitty father, who betrays Richmond, and joins the former owner as the coach at West Ham sticks a spanner in the vibes with gusto. Nate is a bad dude but he does have his reasons. Overall, only the Christmas episode equals the first season. Part of this is personal, I hate being embarrassed and seeing other people embarrassed so I skipped over Nate trying to kiss Neely – B+

What We Do In The Shadows – speaking of embarrassed rejection, this reality satire about vampires has one of the top moments in the immediate past: Mark Proksch as Colin Robinson (Rubenstein?) energy vampire trying to kiss Nadja… but it was only because embarrassment is a great source of energy drain… I am finally caught up to the current season and so far so brilliant – A

Madame X: I saw this concert in person in 2019 (here) and I liked it a lot… not loved it. But the Paramount+ concert documentary is just awful. Seeing it so close, Madonna has never been such a pretentious and self-righteous dick and it ruined what was an “A-” experience – C

Saturday Night Live, Season 47, Episode 2 – I was shocked at how great Kim Kardashian was. I’ve never watched her 20 seasoned reality show but she must have learnt something and on this show she used it to skewer everyone from Kanye West to her mother and sisters and back, and herself on a show with one of the best ideas they’ve had in years -the body switch with Aidy Bryant. Halsey’s new album is great and her song with Lindsey Buckingham on guitar is a must see – A-

Only Murders In The Building – The Steve Martin-Martin Short- Selena Gomez whodunnit has two more episodes left and has proven it as both old school and modern and perfect in 30 minute bites (26 minutes and eight seconds without commercials) – A
