Trevor Powers Announces The End Of Youth Lagoon

Youth Lagoon

I was so sad to hear about this, I still can’t believe it, but Youth Lagoon has called it quit! Trevor Powers, the mastermind behind the moniker, posted this brief good bye on social media and his fans are still in shock:

‘I am bringing down the curtain, brothers & sisters. there is nothing left to say through youth lagoon. it will exist no more. forever a transitional trilogy. the year of hibernation, wondrous bughouse, & savage hills ballroom occupy a certain isolated & solitary spectrum; it is a space i no longer inhabit, nor want to inhabit. youth lagoon is complete. I’ve reached the top of a mountain, only to then be able to see a much larger one I want to ascend. it’s odd to realize that something you’ve created can have the power of wrapping a leash around your neck & hold you hostage. I document everything through music / the peace, the chaos, the creation, the destruction, the life, the eternal sleep. & I’m here, perpetually inspired. there is so much left to say, but it will not be through youth lagoon. thank you to those who have supported this endeavor in any way. this upcoming tour will be the final YL performances. this is far from the end of my undertakings / it is the beginning. in peace, love, & awakening –t’

If the first lines are pessimistic, the rest is not, ‘there is so much left to say’ … ‘this is far from the end of my undertakings’ certainly means that Trevor Powers wants to continue his musical adventure under another incarnation. So we will hear about him soon, I am certain, however it is the end of something, the end of his very inventive music I have truly enjoyed since ‘The Year of Hibernation’, my favorite album of his.

All the messages left by his fans on his Facebook page, are messages of love and sadness, but also gratefulness and gratitude. I am proud to say that I have seen Youth Lagoon three times, from his shy bedroom-recording beginnings to his explosive and tumultuous performance at the Henry Fonda theater a few months ago.

But it’s not completely over yet, Youth Lagoon still has an European tour in February and a few festival appearances, on March 4th at Florida’s Okeechobee Festival, from March 23rd to 27th at Boise’s Treefort Festival, and on June 11th at London’s Field Day for his final performance. Trevor Powers is extremely young and he has already closed one chapter of his sonic adventure, he just can’t disappoint now!
