Best Album 2019: Black Magnolia

The year of the gayteen, the year of the soundcloud death, the year of mumble-emo-rap, the year of the black woman rising…  While the US shook to its foundations, rock nyc shook to the sound of trap in all its guises. Next year? More gay teens, more Latin Trap… and Tomas Doncker and Yusef Komunyakaa epic Black Magnolia. If True Groove had released it in 2018 it would have been the best album of the year, I can’t see how this deeply moody, mournful, poetic and powerful album won’t be the best of 2019… meanwhile, here is 2018, the entire list plus reviews will be up New Year’s Day
