These Days: Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017

POTUS The Painter: I am a majority of one, a guy who really liked Dubya at least as a person in way over his head but at least attempting to do the right thing. His character comes through in his new book “Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors.”  The New Yorker’s art critic, Peter Schjeldahl, called Bush’s paintings “honestly observed and persuasively alive.” Has the world been kinder to any EXOTUS? Between the painting and Trump, Bush seems like a golden age.

New Music: Popdose’s Ken Shane believes it is considered a Playlist as opposed to a mixtape because of the many different singers he uses on the terrific new album More Life, and I’ll buy into that except with the exception of Samphia it doesn’t play out like a playlist. For instance, where is “Bridge Over Troubled Water”? You can’t have a playlist without it! Grade: A-

More New Music: Mount Eerie’s A Crow Looked At Me is Phil Elverum’s  distressing album in memory of his late wife, Geneviève Castrée. About as devastating a listen as you here, it bypasses art because it is so real it is upsetting. Phil has only one thing to say here: this is how great my wife was, she was so great I am lost. Grade: A.

Old Music: I’ve been getting ready for my Micky Dolenz gig on Friday. I saw him a coupla years ago at BB Kings and left early to catch New Order and regretted it ever since so I have high hopes.

POTUS: This is the worst of both worlds for Trump, his TRUMPCARE is about to go down in flames and no one takes anything he says very seriously. The net effect was a nearly 200 point drop on the stockmarket. Either drain the swamp or give into a country where the deep state won’t let you change a damn thing. One way or the other, let’s see what you’ve got. Trump is stuck in a neverland of government where he can’t change the rules by fiat and he can’t do nothing. He is still not allowed to ban Muslims, and all that political capital he had he has wasted on repealing OBamacare. It’s jobs, Trump: jobs, jobs, and more jobs.

More More POTUS: He should just repeal the “must have” section and cancel the tax if you don’t and that will kill off Obamacare and we can get on with the business of dying.

More POTUS: It is like being governed by a not very bright

NATO: Trump ready to go to NATO meeting. Perhaps he can tell the leaders of the free world how he won the popular vote.

War: The US bombed a Mosque in Syria aiming for Al Qaeda, 45 men, 2 children and one woman were slaughtered. At least apologize for killing innocent civilians at prayer.

Movies: I have been watching Paul McCartney’s “Give My Regards To Broad Street” -something so bad it makes “Paramour” look like a musical. It is actually distressing, Macca’s consummate materialism seems silly 30 years older, the close up of his carphone is ridiculous. Plus nobody can act, not even Ringo. Grade: D.

Death: Chuck Barris, Eclectic Entertainer of ‘Gong Show’ Fame, Dies at 87
