These Days: Wednesday, February 10th, 2016

Television: I’ve been watching “The Magicians” on Syfy for a month now. A huge fan of Lev Grossman’s inspired rethinking of The Narnia stories meets Harry Potter as LES party central, the TV series isn’t bad but isn’t great. Except for yesterday, when it was simply bad. Among the self-evident truths, and not unlike “The Sorcerer’s Stone”, the actors never met your imagination, though the lead guy  Jason Ralph can get awful irritating. Maybe it will get its act together but so far, something of a disappointment.

The Race For The Presidency: So Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump won, so I am either getting taxed to death or deported. Talk about a dearth of leadership… Incidentally, there is no one I prefer either.

Recorded: I returned to Majid Jordan, and my conclusion is just about the same: the songs aren’t there, however much you wish they were. Nothing is sticking.

Live: I got a ticket for Beyonce at Citi Field. My gut is it is gonna essentially suck big time, I can’t take her dancing, and I’ve never seen her great, but as social phenoms go, this is what we do.

Movies: “Hail, Caesar” worsens in memory it is like an icecream sundae with no ice cream and no sundae.

Death: Margaret Forster, who wrote the Swingin’ London masterpiece “Georgy Girl” died at the age of 77.

Syria: Us bailing on the Syrian insurgents? Look slike game and match for Assad. Whatever, anything is better than all of this.

Sports: Knick’s coach Derek Fisher was fired Monday, interim coach Kurt Rambis continued the losing ways yesterday with a loss to the Wizards, their record to 23-32 losing their sixth game in a row and their 10th in 11.

Books: Here’s to ending Elvis Costello’s “Unfaithful Music And Disappearing Ink” -I will get around to reviewing but I thought it was pretty good. Grade: B+
