NYC Tabloids: Congratulations to the New York Daily News who no longer have a Pop Music section whether mentioning, joining everybody from the Village Voice to the New York Post in the realisation that, indeed, nobody really cares all that much about popular music any way.
Live: Chvrches at Summerstage, a rainy day for it, and I am not the fan of the new one, or the band itself, that many people are, still if you can deal with all the umbrellas… Rudimental, a great stage experience, at Webster,Frank Turner, a pretty good live experience himself, at Irving Plaza, and a double dose of Dave Chappelle at Gramercy Theatre.
Recorded: listening to Chvrches again, but I still think it is good without being exceptional album, the David Bowie 135 song 5 Years 1969 – 1973 is pretty great though nothing we haven’t heard a million times.
The World: Putin and Obama playing high stakes poker over Syria, though, sadly, everybody should be concerned with one thing: how to get rid of ISIS. Nobody hates the Assad’s more than I do, believe me, but the opposition isn’t strong enough so the only concern must be stopping ISIS.
Sports: The Yanks fail to clinch the wild card, maybe today.
Television: I never much cared for Bill Maher, he is too obvious for my taste, but it was fun to see John Cleese on Maher’s “Real Time” giving em all a study in misanthropy. Easily the smartest man in the room.
