These Days: Thursday, September 12th, 2019

The End Of The World As We Know It: I did say “as we know it” but still, Serena William losing the US Open (to nineteen year old Canadian Bianca Andreescu -the whitest name known to modern man) is the horrifying finality of life like a door being slammed. Serena isn’t OLD, she is 37… she can’t be finished, she has just started. But that’s sports and that is life, it is like the September grass going from green to brown. It is life written large, I remember my Uncle, a captain of industry, in this late 80s, in a fine assisted living quarters but so frail, so finished. Life is just tragic by design, it is a march to nothingness through decades of physical and mental decay.

Movies: “IT: Chapter Two” was a bore, it wasn’t terrible mind, it was just nothing much (Grade: B-), much more interesting is the upcoming “Doctor Sleep” -the sequel to “The Shining,” starring Ewan McGregor as Danny Torrance plus redrum up the ying yang. I did read, and enjoyed, Stephen King’s novel. Though, despite King not being thrilled by Stanley Kubrick’s movie, there is no one out there who can equal it.

Tour: Chance The Rapper postponed his Autumn tour (I was to see it on my 63rd birthday) to spend time with his children. I have just about had it with the pious pea brain. His current album, a tedious brush through his wonderful life, makes only one flat out masterpiece in his life so far, not enough to jerk the world’s chain. I’ve seen his three times, and the last time, at Forest Hills Stadium (my review here)   two years ago, he was worse than my grade suggests. The stench of pop star arrogance permeates him.

The Charts: Lizzo at # 1, Tool at # 1… Taylor didn’t last a week…

The Trump Years: perhaps he isn’t as bad as I think he is (I don’t see how he could be), but he has done one thing that I wish he never had, he has proven that my worst nightmares about politicians don’t scratch the surface of the world we live in.

Coming Soon: Unauthorized as well…

Coming To A Stadium Near You: Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer, on the Hella Mega tour… we get it at Citifield on August 22nd… a Saturday so… maybe…

9-11 + 1 – The day after the city was quiet as a mice, I went to wok but most people stayed home. A rumor reached us that Macy’s had been attacked. And, moment for money, it was a day of the dead and missing, and it reminded me of downtown Beirut in 1979.

9-11-19 – I had dinner with a friend who has cancer. He was at WTC5 during the attack and spent three hours getting out in the asbestos fog. He blames his current condition on that day.

Tik Tok: after hearing that it was Tik Tok, the tiny videos website, that broke “Old Town Road,” i downloaded the app and so far I’ve gotten off on E-40’s “Choices (Yup),” the Vamps “Somebody To You,” and Sawatee’s awesome “My Type”…
