The Homeless: Police Chief claims that if you stop giving money to the homeless, the homeless will disappear. That may well be true of the professional beggars who see using people’s good hearts as a career move: you see them on the streets all the time. But it isn’t true of the extremely poor, and it isn’t true of the drug addicted, and it isn’t true of the mentally unstable, and it certainly and never is true of children. The problem is, who do you help? You can’t help everybody. Here is a clue: well kept middle aged white men with a dog and a “need a helping hand” sign, should certainly not be your first choice.

Gossip: With news that Gavin Rossdale had a three year affair with his Nanny, here is a clue as well: don’t claim your wife may have cheated before the door when your wife catches you sexting, it is bad form.

Live: why can no one perform on an indoor arena level any more? Last night, the Weeknd was absolutely dwarfed by his surroundings. It was sad.

Recorded: One more day, one more day. If you can’t wait, the new 1D has leaked and as added plus, if you don’t feel like breaking the law, seven songs are already available for download. Meanwhile, on to album two of Elvis’s 70s collection: On Stage.

Rock Writers: Brian Hiatt’s Adele profile on the cover of the Rolling Stone, let me dumb it down. She isn’t married, she has a son, and she isn’t sure if she is touring… so while no real meat on the bones, still it has the feel of revelation. But Jon Pareles at NYT got to sit in on a rehearsal for the upcoming Radio City Music Hall. Meanwhile, at the other end of the rock critic spectrum, I can’t even  win a ticket for the sucker. Incidentally, the two stories are identical: that’s what you get, right? I could have written them without even meeting her.

Death: Ex-Motorhead Drummer Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor Dead at 6. He was on Ace Of Spades… “It may sound a bit cliche, or you may or may not want to believe me, but I just can’t bring myself to play if I’m just going through the motions. I’d rather not play.”
