ALan’s refusal to put up a wall so people have to pay, as everyone else seems to do, cost the paper a fortune and so the former editor walked the plank. I think we all admire this guy who used the Guardian’s pages to tell the world the paper was hemorrhaging money. So after turning the paper round, he turned it back again. Man, integrity is expensive.
