These Days: Saturday, June 10th, 2017

New Music: I am listening to a ton of Big Thief and was seriously considering going to see em open for Conor but it is July 20th, same day as young Kendrick. But what is really thrilling me is a song I’ve been waiting to get since hearing Brett Eldredge performed it at MSG  three months ago, “Love Someone” -just a fun little country rocker and sweet as molasses and catchy as all get out: “You laugh at the way I dance, you smile when you hold my hand…” Sure, it is puppy love but all love is puppy: when you are past the honeymoon stage, get back on it. That’s the way I feel about my gal Helen Bach and it is knocking on ten years. If love isn’t a musical comedy then who needs it? If it doesn’t make you happier, what does it do for you? Love is the ultimate gift to yourself so give yourself a gift and listen to Brett’s wonderful song. Grade: A

More New Music: “Wonderful Woman,” a tribute to his wife Themetta Suggs, is Chuck Berry at his finest, with stinging guitar by Gary Clark Jr in his best performance in years. Grade: A

Old Music: Nice to have Taylor Swift back on Spotify. I own all of it anyway, and had it on Apple Music, but the deluxe Red I’d given to Mary back in the day and then my PC crashed and burned so I haven’t heard her acoustic “State Of Grace” masterpiece in way too long. Grade: A

Sports: They’re back. The Cavs handed Golden State their first loss of the post season and what the Warriors don’t know is how they will respond to the hit.

More Sports: A third of the way (more or less) through the season and the Yanks beat up on their division decisively all year long. They took two out of three against the Sox and just bested the Orioles last night.

Comey: I don’t think people are stupid enough to buy into the loathsome Comey’s baffling bullshit. Who on earth could buy his “Oh, Mr. Trump, you forget yourself” impression. Once again with feeling: Yes, the President tried to use his power to coerce the head of the FBI and, once again, Comey WAS THE HEAD OF THE FBI WHO STUCK HIMSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION WITH MORE REGULARITY THAN THE RUSSIANS. This is partisan politics.

A New Hope: “A high turnout of younger voters, many of them against leaving the European Union, voted against Theresa May’s Conservative Party”. What I find amazing is May didn’t learn from Cameron.

Business: Eventbrite bought Ticketfly and Sirius picked up 16% of Pandora. Let’s see how that works out. I don’t buy much stock but when I do I do pretty well. Last year I made 25% interest on my investments. Having said that, why the hell I bought Snap at $26 is beyond me.
