These Days: Saturday, April 29th, 2017

The First 100 Days: President Trump has taught us many things, and among them is that a High School level reading skills is not necessary if you want to be President of the USA. Of all the things that are strange and scary about this brave new world, the scariest is how uneducated Trump is. The man can’t speak English. The best thing has been the Wall Street ninnle. The worst, single worst moment? Trump saying how he didn’t realize how complicated Korea was till China told him. All in all, the only real positive is that this gang that couldn’t shoot straight don’t know how to pass legislation.

New Music: Some real goodies this week, the Prisoner Part Two from Ryan Adams is better than imaginable, Mary J. has released her best album in years and years (that “you’ve got to love yourself before you love somebody else” is aces), Sufjan Stevens singing “Hotline Bling” is a joy forever… and I haven’t got started on the new singles yet.

Old Music: The Van Morrison Bang collection is absolutely breathtaking, sometimes I’m overwhelmed thinking about it. And, I made the move from Nick Lowe to Rockpile. I knew Dave Edmunds when he used to rock and roll.

Sports: Yanks came back from a 9 run deficit to beat the Orioles 14 – 11 in 10 innings and take their portion of first place. Meanwhile, the Mets held on for a much needed win against the Nationals.

Concerts: Fyre Festival? This horrible little scene for the rich and indolent blew up in Ja Rule’s face when they couldn’t get the site in the Bahamas on time and lead millionaires and billionaires and baby into a third world horrorshow. To add insult to injury, they told their clientele, who paid upwards of 20K for the fest, not to bring cash as it was a no cash fest, stranded with no money.

More Concerts: I’ll get around to a full review in a coupla hours. Till then, the Revolution at BB Kings was one of the worst performances I’ve seen. I don’t mean that Wendy, Lisa, and co were lazy or stupid, or arrogant. I mean: they couldn’t play or sing the songs. Grade: D

Bruce At The Beacon: In conversation with Tom Hanks, who lobbed softballs to the arrogant rock star. “I pay my taxes now,” Bruce claimed after explaining how he spent years paying off his taxes after failing to file in his youth. If I was Tom, I wouldn’t have followed up with questions about his farm, the one Chris Christie called him a tax dodger about. I wrote this five years ago: “Bruce Springsteen is paying less than $5,000 per annum in taxes for his 200 acres of farmland. A piece of property a quarter the size of Central park and he pays $5K in taxes? I don’t care what his pathetic excuse is, this is outrageous.” By the way, the excuse is that he is either 1 -Holding it in trust and/or 2 -using it for experimental agricultural purposes. Who knows? Bruce, who won’t shut up, won’t discuss it: not even in his recent autobiography.
