These Days: Monday, February 6th, 2017

New England Patriots' Tom Brady raises the Vince Lombardi Trophy after defeating the Atlanta Falcons in overtime at the NFL Super Bowl 51 football game Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, in Houston. The Patriots defeated the Falcons 34-28. (AP Photo/Darron Cummings)

Rest Of The World To The Patriots, “We’ll Get You Next Year”: How did they do that? To paraphrase Ellen Bach, that was exciting the same way Election Day was excited,: as Brady and co dug themselves out of a 3-28 hole in the final quarter and on to overtime, they never turned back as Brady threw bullet after bullet to beat the Falcons at the Superbowl. HOWEVER, I will add that, not unlike the electoral college, the rules need changing: each team deserves at least one possession in overtime and they should play until there is a winner with each team having equal possessions.

Old Music: I am hoping to write the next Prince review during lunch today, that’s the plan though you won’t get to read it for a couple of days. The Chocolate Explosion is exactly why I am doing this deep dip into great musicians back catalogs, to discover or remember something I had forgotten and in this case a compilation album that is better than just about anything he released in the 21st century. Va-va-voom, absolutely.

New Music:  This week boils down to CeCe Winans, ELbow, Syd and Sampha. Which is essentially what we thought it would be… plus Cece Winans.

Concerts: Hot on the heels of her Halftime show, which I quite like (a solid B+ here), here comes the tour and we are getting Lady Gaga at Citi Field: Lady Gaga will be performing in Citi Field on August 28th! Ticket Sales will be announced Soon!

Television: I finally polished off Saturday Night Live and finally, the show is coming into its own. Yes, Melissa McCarthy but also yes, now that Alec Baldwin and the writers at SNL have started portraying Trump not as an evil emperor so much as puppet that Steve Bannon is manipulating, they made it funny.

Streaming: Hulu without commercials for eleven bucks a month is better than Netflix and Amazon, and I use all three. SNL takes 56 minutes to complete, what’s not to like?

Trump to O’Reilly: “There are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers. What do you think? Our country’s so innocent?”

The Kremlin To Fox Television After O’Reilly Accurately Calls President Putin A Killer (if course he is): “We consider such words from the Fox TV company to be unacceptable and insulting, and honestly speaking, we would prefer to get an apology from such a respected TV company.” So would Stalin.

Commerce: Nordstrom dumps the Ivanka Trump fashion line (their tagline: “classy yet tasteless”), Trump spokesperson says, “The Ivanka Trump brand continues to expand across categories and distribution with increased customer support, leading us to experience significant year-over-year revenue growth in 2016.”
