Old Music: Taylor Swift has been off message since the 1989 tour concluded, and nothing proved it more than her removing her entire catalog from Spotify and Pandora two years ago. At the time Daniel Ek begged her not to do, now, coinciding with Katy Perry’s new album release, she is back with very little fanfare. No big banner. No “This Is Taylor Swift”. And there you have it, even the biggest of stars is expendable and Taylor is a second thought. Now, will the next album (or even single) deal with that? Yeah, probably if it is big enough. However, this was the definition of an unforced error.
A Not Very New Hope: I am not claiming Coney was lying about the facts, but I don’t for one moment believe that Comey was the terrified new employee to Trump’s bullying, sexist grab em by the crotch CEO of America. Comey? Comey. Comey? Are you kidding me? This is the guy who ignored his own boss to step into the middle of a Presidential election. Suddenly, he is terrified to be alone with the President? Much more likely, everything is true here except for one little detail: the would be J. Edgar Hoover was OVERJOYED. Comey made two mistakes in his aspirations to lead the shadow government: 1 – He didn’t have enough dirt on Trump and 2 -he isn’t dealing with a normal person and misjudged the President’s shame factor. If the resistance starts here, the resistance is over. Meanwhile Trump’s response as clever as ever: “Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication…and WOW, Comey is a leaker!”
No Hope: The New York Times have lost the plot, first they compare the Comey – Trump pas de deux to sexual harassment in the workplace and then they compare Comey to (wait for it) Thomas Beckett. No wonder half the country doesn’t trust the paper… THERE IS NO THERE THERE: it is all opinion. As for comparisons: Trump went looking for his Luca Brasi and found Paulie instead.
Some Hope: So what remains of the resistance better hope the Russia interferes with the election act two acts finds something or else they can kiss this sucker goodbye.
Even More Hope: Trump is the Imelda Marcos of Presidential scandals, hang around and wait for the next shoe to drop -there will be thousands.
Hope Overseas: The Conservative Party lost their majority in the UK.
Concerts: The Chainsmokers tomorrow at Forest Hills: It is ALL GENERAL ADMISSION and thereby answers the musical question, when is a rave not a rave? When it ends at 10pm.
Sports: Yankee’s Gary Sanchez moved to sixth in the line up and hits two homers during a 9 -1 trouncing of the Red Sox, thereby taking the series and leading the Sox by three games.
New Music: A busy day, Katy Perry’s new one is better than I thought it would be (Grade: B) and I am trying to justify an A or A+ for Chuck Berry but don’t see how three songs can do it. BUT THREE GREAT SONGS. The singles are pretty good, Vic Mensa and Pusha T, Vince STaples, David Guetta and Justin Bieber…
