May be because she is always in the news, I was under the impression that Taylor Swift would make the top of this ‘2015 most overpaid music celebrities’ list, but it is Katy Perry who is winning, and by far. Note, Adele is not even there, just because she hasn’t toured yet. According to Rant Finance, and Forbes, here are the most overpaid musicians in 2015:
Katy Perry: $135 Million
It is mostly due to her Prismatic World Tour during which she performed 126 shows, including 75 shows abroad, and basically grossed over $2 million in every city she performed in. You have to add to this her endorsement deals with Covergirl and Coty. Katy, how much do you need?
One Direction: $130 million
Technically they have earned less money because you have to divide this sum by four, but as a group, they are very rich! They earned at least $1 million at each of their stops for their 74 day tour, a pay day which is twice that of the Rolling Stones!
Garth Brooks: $90 million
Again, touring is what brings the most money, and Brooks isn’t even done with his current tour! He has regularly made more than $1 million at every concert, so there is no reason for him to stop anytime soon.
Taylor Swift: $80 million
Here is she! Far behind Katy, Taylor had nevertheless a very successful 2014 album ‘1989’ and a tour grossing $4 million per city. Time for a new record Taylor?
The Eagles: $73.5 million
And old tunes never get out of fashion as the Eagles earned 73.5 million with their ‘History of the Eagles’ tour, including sales from DVD and merchandise sales.
Calvin Harris: $66 Million
Harris is a DJ, a very successful one, and if Taylor and he are still a couple (who knows?) this makes them an extremely rich one. They have even beaten Jay Z and Bey!
Justin Timberlake: $63.5 million
I had no idea he was still doing something in music, he apparently played 59 tour dates, but also got plenty of cash from endorsement deals with Bud Light and Sony.
Diddy: $60 million
This is what I call being smart with money, Diddy doesn’t tour, doesn’t make music anymore and he still earn a ton of money from TV network, clothing line, alkaline water, vodka…
Fleetwood Mac: $59.5 million
Another nostalgia tour (86 concerts) which is working very well, especially when ticket prices are so high.
Lady Gaga: $59 million
She is still there, still touring (66 shows) and even though you hear about Gaga far less than before, she is doing pretty well especially with prestigious endorsement deals (Versace, MAC)
