The Grand Re-Opening Of The Beach Club Estates, Friday, June 2nd, 2023

Whatever you think of the institute of marriage notwithstanding, weddings are a whole other thing; a joyful occasion for rejuvenation and rebirth of a family. It defines good vibes and so does Anthony Pellegrino, the owner of two Lake Ronkonkoma locations for your wedding and catered affairs, as well as a joyful weekly live performance space for both disco freestyle artists and tribute bands.

The Beach Club Estate was buzzing when I arrived as it re-opened after six months due to a pipe cracking, waiting for the cutting of the ribbon as part of a proclamation from the Suffolk County Controller’s office as well as certificates of congratulations, merit, and recognition.

Anthony is a moveable feast of a man, nothing is too big or small to merit his entire attention, everybody feels like a welcome class as they cling on to him while he keeps the place happening. I catch up with him a little away from the gorgeous chapel and the seating area on the grass overlooking the Lake in the banquet hall where MC Jersey Stallion brought the happiness while a DJ freestyled.

Anthony bought the “The Beach Club Estates”, which has been around since the 1920s in 1997, to go with the ultra luxe “Windows On The Lake” which opened in 1993. “We got very busy over there so we opened this location”, giving him a complete monopoly on weddings by the Lake in Ronkonkoma. “We are the only two businesses on the lake” he clarifies. During the pandemic, he did a lot of praying and more renovating, and he is in for a terrific summer.

But I am here as a music guy and I am fascinated by “Anthony’s Live Events”. “It started off as a by the lake restaurant but how to get people to come? We doubled the capacity of the restaurant. If you see in Manhattan during the pandemic you’ll see tents and restaurants on the road, meanwhile we can only fit fifty people in it. You want to call it jealousy, whatever, not being able to pay the mortgage, right? You have to pay for it. A lot of the caterers got me to sue Governor Cuomo, so we did. We lost, of course, but it doesn’t matter because it still made a statement as to what was happening and got them to change the rules faster.”

Anthony has worked in the service business since he was seven years old, “My mother and father went from butcher, to baker, to deli to pizza parlor…” When his parents broke apart and he came to Ronkonkoma, he opened his first restaurant, “Anthony’s” at the age of fifteen. “We came to Ronkonkoma to hide, everybody knew our business, but we grew and are now major caterers for big companies and stuff. We catered for 5,000 people off premises

“We did that for a long time and then we were able to buy our own places. We slowed down off premises and everything started to take off.”

Anthony is a former musician who went to Five Towns College and met everyone, Les Paul, Mary Ford: those were the guys in the day. “I learnt all music, rock and roll but also classical and jazz.”

Anthony was a professional musician till he decided that wasn’t the way he was going. “You go to music school for two reasons, either you are going to be a professional musician and you’re gonna be famous and write music and do whatever, or you’re gonna be a teacher, right? I wasn’t gonna be a teacher and I saw how hard it is to break through. So I went my own way and now I’m producing at later life.”

Anthony has put on many shows, but this is a new season for “The Beach Club Estates” “We are going to do outdoor events and weekly stuff. At my other place we did dinner shows all winter, like Rat Pack tributes, Bat Out Of Hell Meatloaf shows, murder mysteries. All kind of cool stuff like that.” On Friday night Aby from 70s freestylist stars TKA performed (interview will posted tomorrow)

The Pellegrino clan is a close knit group of friends, including rocknyc.live owner SohoJohnny. Then all this clique started coming together, another network of friends. “We call ourselves ‘Bedroom Talk At Night’, on Facebook. Rather than go to bed we recap the day, know what’s going on in your life and what’s new to you.”

This is the lovelier side of Long Island, a place where happiness is supreme and hope is in every pore. Anthony weathered everything and is back with the sort of premises built for a great time. Just getting out of the city to Beach Club Estates is a wonderful refresher and worth a drive down for a wedding or for a night out.
