If you visit the Foo Fighters’ new website, you will see the picture above with a tree with a new band logo and a countdown, which is quite mysterious. If I do count correctly the countdown will end up on November 23rd, but what does it means? A new album? A new concert? An unexpected event? Nobody knows… but since Mr. Grohl is probably the busiest man in rock & roll, everything goes.
According to NME, some fans have compared the new sign with the famous double FF letters to that of the Route 66 sign, ‘suggesting that a second season of ‘Sonic Highways’ might be coming’, and I will go with that explanation because it seems alright…
Furthermore, if you click on the link, you will also hear a sort of instrumental, roaring guitars in loops which does not really remind me of the Foo Fighters’ music… So could it be a new direction? And why not, after all the band recently received some heavy criticism from former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum, who spoke to Windsorstars:
‘I love Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters frontman), don’t get me wrong. But he’s a drummer who got out front with a guitar. Is there any danger in it? Not really. If you go to a Foo Fighters show, you’re gonna see a band play their set, and everything is gonna go down nice, and he’ll thank the crowd, and everyone’s gonna go home and go ‘Wow, that was a really nice rock n’ roll show.’’… ‘Not everything went perfect in any of the bands I’ve been in, but I know one thing: People on their way home were going ‘Holy ****, what was that?’’
Ouch! But this is the feeling right? Dave Groh is nice, plays his set, thanks everyone a million of time and the whole show is nice at best… boring at worst.
‘You know, I see bands with lead singers who are really nice. Squeaky clean. And I really don’t feel I’m getting that wild, rock n’ roll sensibility that I want,’ Sorum also said… of course, compared to Axl Rose, Grohl is a polite kitten and danger is not his name…
So you have it, the Foo Fighters will probably launch another part of the series ‘Sonic Highways’ very soon and Grohl will stay ‘fucking awesome’ with everyone he will interview, or they are cooking another middle of the road and very forgettable album.
