The Early Bird: New Recorded Releases 10-21-22 – 10-27-22 Reviewed

Of all the Beatles outtakes of the past coupla years only two stand out. Paul McCartney composing “Get Back” at Pinewood and this one here, “Yellow Submarine – Songwriting Work Tape / Part 1” as John Lennon works out the lick and offers a very early lyric: “In the place where I was born no one cared” (Grade: A).

Still with singles, Lil Uzi Vert preps us for his upcoming dance album The Pink Tape, and “Just Wanna Rock” is an all out club track winner and yet another new move from the sublime hyper-hip rapper (Grade: A-), I saw emop rockers from Arizona at Roseland back in 2002 and they have improved since then, pn “Place Your Debts” the sound is deeper and sadder and hear very careful and otherwise (Grade: B+) , the talented duo NXWorries joined by H.E.R. for an average soul track (Grade: B). Caroline Polachek may define hyper pop as surely as Charli XCX and adding flamenco on “Sunset” can only help (Grade: B), the country blues singer with a nice piece of Gospel anthem (Grade: B).

Over at albums, I reviewed Taylor Swift’s low key synpop tenth album Midnights (3AM edition) earlier today (here) (Grade: B+) , it’s about time John Entwistle’s was given a decent send off and while there is no Who here, Keith Moon makes an appearance on the lead off track so you have the Who’s rhythm section back together, and while John had his moments as a solo performer the compilation proves that maybe not enough of them… love the title pun: Rarities Oxhumed – Volume One (Grade: B), Alex Turner and the rest of the Arctic Monkeys complete their pivot to UK rock and roll lounge lizards on The Car (Grade: C+)

The Car – Arctic Monkeys – C+

Sunset – Caroline Polachek – B

Try Jesus – Elle King – B

Place Your Debts – Jimmy Eat World – B+

Rarities Oxhumed – Volume One – John Entwistle – B

Just Wanna Rock – Lil Uzi Vert – A-

Where I Go (feat. H.E.R.) – NxWorries, Anderson .Paak, Knxwledge – B

Midnights (3AM edition) – Taylor Swift – B+

Yellow Submarine – Songwriting Work Tape / Part 1 – The Beatles – A
