I know, and I agree, kill your idols. But killing them is one thing and lynching them is another. Both Eric Clapton and Van Morrison got themselves cancelled. Look, I got my vaccine the very day I was eligible and plan to take my booster the day I’m eligible. But anybody who feels science and scientists are infallible may believe the world is flat. Or is the exactness of science also allowed to change its mind. It certainly is far from infallible, or do you want some leeches with that chemo: “physicians used the bloodsucking powers of leeches in an attempt to remedy everything from hemorrhoids to headaches, depression, and even deafness…” (here).
Anyway, I do think Slowhand and Van are morons, I don’t think the vaccine is a magic bullet but for want of anything better, it must be taken. Having said that, how do you cancel the men who wrote “Layla” and “Moondance” and to what end? So they are cranks, so what? Both men are 76 years old, fuck off and stop fucking with them.
It is for that reason I quite like Clapton’s remix of “This Has Got To Stop,” a pleasant and unassuming little blues rocker with a reapplication to the folks who would shut him up (and also to a girl, of course) that hands a verse to the Celtic Cowboy and has them harmonizing on the choruses. “I’m trying to do what’s right,” claims Van, “So lock me up and throw away the key.”
This pandemic has taken a horrific told here, 696K deaths (one in every five hundred), but do you really believe anybody is listening to Clapton and Van and has decided not to take the vaccine, they can’t sell a record in 2021, how are they changing anyone’s opinion?
Apparently there is an album on the way,and I’ll be there
