The Earliest Bird: Top New Recorded Release 8-6-21 – 8-12-21, Aventura and Bad Bunny’s “Volvi” Reviewed

Aventura and Bad Bunny

Aventura have ruled the Latin American Bachata sound since 1994, and despite the occasional break up (and the rubber ball Romeo Santos, solo not solo) can still sell out MetLife as they will on October 9th. However, Bachata, which is a tweeny, swoony, melodious balladeering, got covered up by the new Reggaeton -a mix of US pop, trap beats, and reggaeton.

I can’t think of a better concept for Aventura than hooking up with Latin-pops greatest artist, and one of the greatest artists in all pop music, Bad Bunny. I started listening to Bad Bunny back in 2017 after being blown away by his performance at Mega Summer at MSG, and watched as he turned his Puerto Rican sounds extracted from a lifetime of mixtapes.

Bad Bunny was born in 1994, the same year Aventura formed, and his sensibility is a mix of old school and new with influences he picks up and changes in the lab. On “Volvi” his booming voice gives a future to Bachata it hadn’t had, and Romeo sounds and smooth and romantic as ever, and the song updates everything you love about both performers. It is both pop as can be and odd and angular. And a great song. If you don’t like Bad Bunny, this is a good place to start.

Grade: A
