“Gregory’s Girl” is one of the great movies of the 1980s as much as Altered Images is one of the great pop bands of the 1980s, if you had fallen under the spell of the effortlessly charming young girl at the center of all this, Clare Grogan.
There was the movie of teenage Gregory in search of a first romance followed by Altered Images, pinkish hued girly girl songs for post teen and a side step into disco in 1983. Mascara Streakz features Clare’s first music in 39 years and while some forms of magic can’t really be replicated, taken on its own Clare has a twelve song collection of disco diva sounds that takes off from the Kylie Minogue’s of the world.
There are no “Pinky Blue”‘s on Mascara Streakz, “Lost Of Love” is a brooding snooze, but “Colour Of My Dreams” is sweet and old-fashioned 80s electro-pop, and while it doesn’t much stick, it is more than just a diverting exercise in nostalgia and newtalgia for we long term fans.
