Ladbaby is blogger, practical jokester, social media blah etc Mark Ian Hoyle and his wife Roxanne Zee Hoyle, took over from American Idol as the Christmas # 1 to beat. There was a time, circa 2009, when “Killing In The Name” was used as a spearhead to dethrone Idol with a hard piece of agitprop that eventually got named the best Christmas # 1 ever.
But it was a one off and since 2018 it has been Ladbaby (is that true of 2022? We will know soon enough). So far Ladbaby has hit the Christmas top with stuff like 2019’s “I Love Sausage Rolls” (quite sausage rolls is considered amusing is beyond me as the duo reworks Arrows-Joan Jett’s 80s classic, in 2018 they performed a cover of quite possibly the worst song of all time, Jefferson Starship’s “We Built This City” made worse by substituting rock and roll with sausage rolls.
Last year, Elton and Ed gave em a run for their money to the Christmas # 1 before joining Ladbaby on the eventual winner. This year, in one of their actually funny escapades, they re-imagined “Feed The World” with lookalikes of Ed, a quite remarkable Elton, and other folks like a Stormzy lookalike and the brothers Gallagher wannabes joining in the Bob Geldof and Midge Ure “Band AId” anthem. The only celebrity is financial experct Martin Lewis
It’s all for charity, to fill up the UK’s food banks so that in those post-pandemic and Brexit era where they go through three Prime Ministers in less than a year and poverty is alive and killing, help is seriously needed. Trussell Trust is a good charity but a crappy song.
