With this we come to the end of the Bay City Rollers. Yes, there are more greatest hits, and more solo stuff, but as far as originals go the only one I haven’t reached yet is 2015’s A Christmas Shang-A-Lang, and I will put that on hold till next December if the fates allow.
Bay City Rollers were at times a good band and occasionally a great band, but they never had a chance to grow out of the kiddie boy band into adulthood. Blame everyone. Tam Patton was a lousy manager who ended up in prison and died of a heart attack. Eric and Woody weren’t good enough to carry the band. Clive Davis fucked them up by adding Air Supply. The albums tanked, the singles tanked, they couldn’t figure out how to sell songs and therefore didn’t.
The albums came together pretty well:
Rollin – A
Once Upon A Star – B+
Bay City Rollers – A-
Wouldn’t You Like It? – B+
Rock n’ Roll Love Letter – B+
Dedication – A
It’s A Game – C+
Elevator – B-
Voxx – B
Ricochet – B+
Live In Japan – A-
Breakout ’85 – D
Rollerworld: Live At The Budokan, Tokyo 1977 – C
Tam is dead, Les is dead, Alan and Ian are dead, and the band is done despite Woody’s new single last Christmas. It sure feels like Saturday night is are over…
