The Coachella 2022 Lineup Is Here, And It’s Not So Great

Coachella 2022 Lineup

The Coachella 2022 lineup has been revealed and I find it quite boring. The return of America’s biggest festival has been anticipated for a long time: the Indio festival didn’t happen in 2020 or 2021 and was rescheduled about a million times, but I will need more than Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Ye/Kanye to be excited. I understand that they are the most famous pop stars of the moment, but doesn’t Billie Eilish headline every single festival right now? Glastonbury, the Governors Ball, and Coachella: how original! As for Kanye, I didn’t even go to his little party with Drake at the Coliseum, a few miles from my house, so I cannot imagine driving to Indio to see him.

The rest of the lineup falls into three categories: acts I have never heard about – and the list is longer every year, I know, I am old – acts I don’t care about, and finally a few acts that interest me. But I probably could see them out of the festival. Since I hate EDM and DJs and I am not really into modern hip hop, there’s already a lot of stuff to eliminate right away on this bill. I just know that Belgium rapper Stromae is a big deal in France.

Some noticeable acts include Megan Thee Stallion, Phoebe Bridgers (how the hell did she manage to rank so high on the flyer? Higher than Caroline Polachek?) Run the Jewels, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, Danny Elfman, Doja Cat, Jamie xx, Carly Rae Jepsen, Vince Staples, Japanese Breakfast, Baby Keem, Caribou, City Girls, Denzel Curry, 100 gecs, Turnstile, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, the Avalanches, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Orville Peck, Disclosure, Brockhampton, Spiritualized, Slowthai, Fatboy Slim, IDLES, BadBadNotGood, Amyl and the Sniffers to list familiar names. Some of them may be worth the trip and the price of the ticket but we are far from the original April 2020 lineup which was supposed to include Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Rage Against the Machine before the Covid-19 pandemic forced organizers to reschedule to October 2020, then to April 2021, then to October 2021 before bumping again to April 2022. Travis Scott has been out of the picture since the Astroworld horror story but what happened to Frank Ocean and Rage Against the Machine? Coachella 2020 was also supposed to have Thom Yorke, Lana Del Rey, FKA twigs, Lil Nas X, Lil Uzi Vert, Charli XCX, Weyes Blood, and they all have disappeared in the new lineup. It sounded like a much more original and eclectic festival.

Coachella is scheduled to take place on the weekends of 15-17 April and 22-24 April at the Empire Polo Ground in Indio, California. Did you notice that Ye is playing on Easter Sunday?
