That Was The Week That Was: May 9th, 2016

Sports: Beltin’ Carlos Beltran… the switch hitting Yankee he his 400th home run yesterday. According to ESPN: “The 39-year-old became the 54th player in major league history to reach that milestone and just the fourth switch-hitter. He joined fellow Yankee Mickey Mantle, Eddie Murray and Chipper Jones.”It’s a great accomplishment,” Beltran said. “You mention three great players, and just to be next to them, it motivates me to continue, to finish my career strong and just see what I’m capable of doing.”

The Race For The Presidency: I am reminded of when Reagan won back in 1980, among us East Village it was a sign of the apocalypse and as bad as it was, and though its effects are still being felt today, the country, the middle class and the poor did not collapse. Sure, income disparity is a nightmare but life didn’t come close to stopping. Whatever your feelings about Donald Trump are, the US will survive.

More Sports: The world has stopped spinning and the Yanks have stopped losing, meanwhile the Mets return from a 4 – 7 roadtrip to battle first place Nats. The Liberty won the first game of their season and Toronto are on their way to the Finals.

Recorded: Corinne, Mari and Karl -all released excellent albums last week, but that Chance The Rapper mixtape? A masterpiece, an epic. I am considering a full length review of Chance, if I feel I have something more to add.

More Recorded: I am finally getting a handle on 1999 and struggling through Harum Scarum…

Live: I weakened and bought a ticket for Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy reunion gig on Saturday, On Tuesday I have 1975 at the same venue, the dreaded Barclay’s Center.

Bimbo Alert: If Hillary loses the election due to another blondie, assume a divorce is in the making.
